Fatima Iqbal Awan
Fatima Iqbal, one of the Global Ambassadors for TFOS in Pakistan, is passionate about becoming the first-ever female Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in Pakistan. She graduated from The University of Faisalabad, Pakistan in 2016, and was Gold Medalist of the Pioneer Batch of optometrists in Pakistan. Dr. Iqbal recently completed her Masters of Philosophy with honors in Clinical Optometry, and since 2016, she has been full time faculty at the School of Optometry at The University of Faisalabad, while running her private practice at Abdullah Memorial Hospital in Faisalabad. She is also Associate Editor of the
Journal Inside Optometry, the first peer-reviewed optometry journal in Pakistan, and completing a Fellowship of American Academy of Optometry, USA, under Dr. Nicholas Rumney. Dr. Iqbal has been awarded with a gold medal for being Best Student Scholar by Pakistan’s Optometry Society in 2016, and she remained Elsevier Student Ambassador from 2014-2016. Her expertise includes contact lenses and ocular prosthesis, ophthalmic dispensing and ophthalmic instruments. Her interest in the cornea and tear film has led her to conduct a study to reveal the relationship between cycloplegia with corneal curvatures and axial length according to different refractive statuses, which also unveiled the effect of accommodation on described ocular structures. Dr. Iqbal completed additional studies comparing IOL Master and Conventional biometry in longer eyes and Invasive and Non-invasive Techniques of measuring Tear Break up Time (TBUT) in contact lens users. Most recently, she is working on the Assessment of TBUT of 5000 females and frequency of causes of Dry Eye in female university students. Fatima likes spending her time with students, listening to them and advocating for optometry and eye health. She likes reading books, watching movies and above all she enjoys eating and travelling.
