Daniel Sanchez-Di Martino
Daniel Sanchez-Di Martino is Director of the Cornea and Ocular Surface Department, Catedra de Oftalmologia, Universidad Nacional de Asuncion (UNA) in Asuncion, Paraguay. He also serves as Director of the Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Department at the Instituto de la Vision in Asuncion, Paraguay. After obtaining his medical doctor degree in 1990 from Universidad Nacional de Asuncion Medical School, Dr. Sanchez-Di Martino completed two residencies in Ophthalmology in the Ophthalmology Department at UNA from 1991 to 1993, and at the Ophthalmology Department Paulista School of Medicine, Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 1993 to 1995. He completed two clinical fellowships in Cornea and Cataract Surgery with the Ophthalmology Department at the Paulista School of Medicine, Sao Paulo, Brazil, from 1995 to 1996. Then he was accepted for a Refractive Surgery and Cornea fellowship at Doheny Eye Institute at the University of Southern California, under the mentorship of Dr. Peter McDonnell, from 1996 to 1997. Dr. Sanchez-Di Martino has co-authored several scientific publications, including six book chapters. He is a member of various national and international ophthalmology societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, ASCRS, PAAO, Cornea Society and Paraguayan Society of Ophthalmology, where he served as Scientific Director for many years. His current field of work covers the Cornea and Ocular Surface, Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and his main research interests are corneal biomechanics, keratoconus detection, cross linking, fungal corneal infections and corneal transplantation.
