Miki Uchino graduated from Yamanashi University School of Medicine, Japan, in 2000. She then worked as a resident in the Department of Ophthalmology, Keio University School of Medicine, where she worked alongside Dr. Yoko Ogawa with dry eye disease patients, specifically those with graft versus host disease. After the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) meeting in Puerto Rico 2004, Dr. Uchino collaborated with Dr. Debra Schaumberg publishing many papers about the prevalence of dry eye disease in the Japanese population. Dr. Uchino’s interest in epidemiology lead her to Harvard’s School of Public Health Masters program in 2016. Additionally, she was also involved with both the epidemiology subcommittee of the TFOS Meibomian Gland Disease workshop and the epidemiology subcommittee for the TFOS DEWS II. Currently, Dr. Uchino is an Associate Professor in Department of Ophthalmology, Keio University School of Medicine, overseeing several epidemiological studies.
